LAst Year at 100 Thousand Poets for Change...

Poetrypalooza Grand Finale at The Last Bookstore

Today I will be co-hosting the grand finale of the 2012 Poetrypalooza Tour in downtown LA! I'll also be giving a featured reading. I am really excited to present some of my LA poems to the audience, as well as reveal some new pieces about shame and the eager secrets of my early dreams.  I'm happy to be sharing the spotlight with my good friend, photographer, Nicole Fournier . She will have some of her latest work on display and for purchase. I'm very proud of the efforts made by the ZzyZx Writerz in creating this phenomenal event that gulps each segment of Los Angeles county. Their aspirations have brought onboard even more thriving talent and support from more of the community.  I look forward to the future as we collectively celebrate "Poetry in Life!" The Last Bookstore show begins: 2-6pm Address: 453 S. Spring St. Los Angeles, CA 90013 www.lastbookstorela.com Poetrypalooza:  http://poetrypalooza-la.weebly.com/tour-schedule.html

Review of Chemorella by Ken Phillips and Katy Franco

Chemorella , Ken Phillips and Katy Franco’s color-bound, 57 page bilingual journey catapults readers into the world of cancer and the afterward. This story captures the rawness of emotional evolution of someone diagnosed with cancer. In these pages we witness the first injections of devastation, denial, fear, and finally the climax of letting go and choosing life over grief or giving up to the disease.  Phillips and Franco address the severity of cancer in a way that is expressive and humorous; and also written in a way that is always accessible to the reader by means of adopting the Cinderella Fairy Tale to Franco’s testimony. Like Cinderella, Chemorella is a lovely and beautiful woman with a lot of good spirit to share. However, Chemorella becomes stricken with a tragedy that many people don’t come back from, that is far more serious than anything Cinderella had faced. Though with nudges of negativity from her three “famously awful roommates,” and guidance from her super ...

Jane & Joe

Like Romeo & Juliet, we shine on like stars, separated by death -- the memories come in storms to electrify my eyes with the reality of yesterday. I'm pulled to their charm, but running conflicts with today's prize; a generous heart handed over, a blessing to my loneliness. Still, there is us and we triumphed in 73 days. Windows of words penetrate the love; the union of One and an explosion of universal rendezvous, showcase in a carousel. His life, our paths walked into the other, nesting in generations unbeknownst. I house myself under its agenda, put shame to my face for walking upward, beyond the posts we tied ourselves to. Indian Summer in radiance. Calamity of fate.

A Place in History?

I always wanted to be a star! Ever since I was a small girl, I wanted to act, I wanted to sing, I wanted to showcase myself in front of a group. I never thought I would be a physical star...rather, my name is now a part of astronomy. Today I received one of the most unique gifts. The coordinates of the constellation Leo was named for me. The position it sat in on August 23, 2010 mark my place in the cosmos. I am very moved by this; especially from someone who often times seems so tough and lacking of emotion. It's the way love is shown? I am happy for this gift. It's really beyond my understanding, but it's beautiful.

Recollection of Solace

You visited me; I am not sure why I am so surprised... I thought of you, wished for you, and you came. I felt your hands, saw your lips, sucked in your taste. Everything was as it was before, for moments of hours, or days, inside. Thank you for your body, your care and love... I found you immersed in water, it gave more shape to your body -- your frame. I recognized you immediately. When we touched, the opaque became skin. Reality. Kisses under water, upon lips with ash, stuck in a worrisome smile; complex. You stayed long because I didn't want to let go. I still didn't. You're still beautiful -- warm; pushed the comfort upon me and rolled me up into your body. Eyes always yours. Just those lips had changed; a full pout, but tarnished still... You didn't speak. Our communication was internal.                                          Fragile, everlasting.
