For the New Babies

For the new babies: I am prayin' that the sky we know to be blue will stay that way for you. & I want you to know about the grass and all its friends, the weeds, the in-between, even the case for roaches; (that's right--and because it's righteous and rosy) to respect all things that breathe. Dearest little ones, keep yourself tucked tightly inside and blossom safely when it's time. You're the tulips perched steadily atop its stem. You will know how to bend with the current so to never break. You will adjust with the pressure so to conserve your strength and whip back with might and with truth beaming from your eyelids. You will be the ones to lead us away from hate for all that we are, and give us light for a new age. Jessica M. Wilson April 2, 2020 napowrimo National Poetry Month Covid-19 can't kill poetry

Be the CHANGE you wish to see in the WORLD!

Thank you to my good friend, Sean Hill, for delivering this mantra in his poem... it has brought me much peace. Thank you to Gandhi, for being so selfless and leading by example. CHANGE! Be the CHANGE!

My Pop

I can't do what my Daddy did, making ends meet from Swap Meet fortunes. I can't do what my Daddy did, start a job at 15, work into it as an adult give in to it for 30 more years to retire to the white picket dream. I can't do what my Daddy did, save-a-way, with each penny earned, each cent nimbly tucked away for the "rainy day". I can't do what my Daddy did, how he helped me with my young goals, set sights on education. No, I can't do what my Daddy did, give in to a structure of economy that took care of him and his family and his sisters and mother a father in the VA... live to see another day... of the Dream. of the American reputation that was printed for all to see in the books of history -- now a mere scrapbook of Uncle Sams glory days. - Jessica M.Wilson 2/28/14 Friday, 11:15am

Much Ado about Poetry

I just realized how busy a month August truly is! There are many poetry events that I am a part of, not to mention all the poetry events in LA that are just filling the calendar. Poetry is ALIVE in LA! Who says LA is not a mecca for literary genius...if anything, it inspires us from the turbulent realities we face each day. We write write write... So, to anyone that cares, I want to get all the messaging straight. Here's what's filling up my calendar these coming days: Poetrypalooza! I love the name of this event! I love that even get to be a part of it! Along with all the greatness that is Poetrypalooza (poetry taking over LA county), I will be conducting poetry workshops! I'll introduce you to the Humament, expand your Stream of Consciousness methods, and help your children create Acrostic poetry. Here is the complete schedule of events: http://poetrypalooza2011.weebly.com/tour-schedule.html I'm teaching: August 20, 21, 22, 27 100 Thousand Poets ...
