For the New Babies

For the new babies: I am prayin' that the sky we know to be blue will stay that way for you. & I want you to know about the grass and all its friends, the weeds, the in-between, even the case for roaches; (that's right--and because it's righteous and rosy) to respect all things that breathe. Dearest little ones, keep yourself tucked tightly inside and blossom safely when it's time. You're the tulips perched steadily atop its stem. You will know how to bend with the current so to never break. You will adjust with the pressure so to conserve your strength and whip back with might and with truth beaming from your eyelids. You will be the ones to lead us away from hate for all that we are, and give us light for a new age. Jessica M. Wilson April 2, 2020 napowrimo National Poetry Month Covid-19 can't kill poetry

What I Heard

I heard it for myself, but I didn’t understand it. It was mumbled, passed under the air, the translation was kind, so I don’t really believe it; but why would you say that, mom? Why say that…? Were you pushed to a wall and forced to finally speak? My self-esteem cannot release me because I don’t even know if I am looking at myself anymore. I pray to god and I pray to god. I know the mother spirit is listening and is there with me through the struggle, I know my heart is good, but what did I hear? Was that you, finally coming exposed? Did you ever want me, or want us, my sister and I; that have been dragged over fields by our hair, screaming for peace, unconditional love, from the lap of you…? We want more , yes. We do. Your face has always been in my memory: A smile from the shadows; maybe always an illusion to the mother I wanted to see; one who gave love. Jessica M. Wilson 9/9/16 Friday, 11:18am

Prism

cascade of color generations after before; the start of matriculation dreams of higher revelation beyond the normality of just being breathing or beating of where we all began i see unity in this prism  light glaring into my throat, a voice for more a voice to plunge into pastimes of lives more than mine more than what i have seen it is immeasurable  makes me want to scream higher for the dreams of all reality to come to be. i infiltrate the circle, tuck myself into a knapsack and dance under the joy, no solitude, a collective self  that will resonate and sing beyond the reasons of understanding; who we can be or become within season we are collective body; masses of other, faces of comfort that grace the life holy. one being to nurture and penetrate without charity or solace camaraderie motherly, minds of menace and laughter minds planted with decision to reach beyond the vision of alignment. reaching beyond the chosen mind c...

Greetings. I find myself parked inside of the NoHo Metro Station. Parked standing. Reading a poem called "Being Human", selected from a book called Serious Longing . This is my book. This is my poem. Bronwyn Mauldin is an angel with a video camera. She caught me reading, and all the humans behind me, traveling. I am proud of this moment. Fresh off the Press! "Power" is published in DryLand Lit!

I am super happy... and Juan gave me the great news, that the latest edition of DryLand Lit is live, and our poems are in it! A poem written over the driest summer I can recall... Power , was published in the Fall 2015 edition. http://drylandlit.org/2015/10/17/power/ I am very thankful to the editors for choosing this piece. It's also so amazing to be published alongside my beloved gentle word shark, Juan Cardenas! His poem of truth telling through immigrant eyes lay down the educational toxicity and belittlement shed on foreign children. Parthenia St Elementary  takes us into the uncertain shoes of elementary school. It is such an honor to be a part of the phenomenal literary richness of LA!

My poem, "The Children" is published in YAY! LA Magazine!

WOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! My poem about the colonization and displacement of all of our ancestors... pulled away from their roots and thrown into a hodge podge of madness, is captured with sentiment in The Children . I am thankful to  YAY! LA's Editor, Jessica Ceballos, for selecting my work to be featured, along with an appropriate companion piece of artwork by Alberto Alvarez, titled "Blue bird", shown below. Please do leave a comment, I am happy to hear your words.  Much love, Los Angeles and YAY! LA! Thank you, Jessica C.!

Living with Treatments

There is a worm inside my brain that twirls around like a snake squeezing at the pins cringing inside. Nails pile in like a sadistic rain stick that vibrates each time I cry. Each time you make me cry. Each time.
