We know you've been writing through the entire year and have many amazing words to share! Why not send your best poems to the 2nd Annual Los Angeles Poet Society Summer Contest? Your poem could be the winner of a minimum $25 prize!

This poetry contest is asking all entrants to respond to Summer Heat.

In no more than 200 lines, send us your poem that evokes Summer Heat.
All submitted work will be judged by Los Angeles Poet Society.
$1 donation per entry (details below).


The Prize
The sole winner will win $25, plus all the proceeds from the contest entry donations.
The winner will also be published on the Los Angeles Poet Society website and invited to give a reading of the winning poem. 


Criteria to Enter
Submit up to 3 poems max per person
Poems must be less than 200 lines
Submitted work must not be previously published

*** Please make sure that your name only appears on your cover page, and not on each page of your poem(s).***

Submission Deadline is September 21st, midnight


How to Enter
Email a text document (.doc, .rtf, pdf, .txt) to venicesoapboxpoets@gmail.com with subject line:
 “Summer Heat”; first name last name
Deadline for entry: September 1, 2013, midnight
$1 donation asked for each entry. Donations can be made as a gift to our paypal account: wilson9jm@yahoo.com  
Make sure to send as a gift so the full $1.00 is posted to paypal.


Remember, the more that is donated, the larger the CASH PRIZE will be!

    Hi Poetry Society! I have a question. What else do you need to see on the cover page? At first I thought you only wanted the person's name. By cover page do you mean cover letter? Thanks. MET

      Hi --- Yes, only your name and titles are fine. You don't need a cover letter.

    Hi I just heard about the contest a few minutes ago,but I'm confused about many issues involving it. Please may I ask what is the time line to submit a poem,how do you submit the poem,how many different ways are there to donate when submiting a poem & are there any other rules or regulations that I should know ? Review of Chemorella by Ken Phillips and Katy Franco

Chemorella , Ken Phillips and Katy Franco’s color-bound, 57 page bilingual journey catapults readers into the world of cancer and the afterward. This story captures the rawness of emotional evolution of someone diagnosed with cancer. In these pages we witness the first injections of devastation, denial, fear, and finally the climax of letting go and choosing life over grief or giving up to the disease.  Phillips and Franco address the severity of cancer in a way that is expressive and humorous; and also written in a way that is always accessible to the reader by means of adopting the Cinderella Fairy Tale to Franco’s testimony. Like Cinderella, Chemorella is a lovely and beautiful woman with a lot of good spirit to share.
